Half-Life 2: Survivor
Not content on bringing a random Manga style version of CS to the arcades in the form of CS:Neo the crazy guys at Taito have developed a rather unique version of HL2.
How can HL2 be made unique i hear you say? Well instead of using the PC norm of a mouse and keyboard - Half-Life 2: Survivor uses two joy sticks and some foot pedals, which i can only assume are what are used to run and move?
Gameplay
Players control their movement by a combination of joysticks - one for each hand - and floor pedals. The console unit’s screen is a HDTV widescreen liquid crystal display - the action unfolding from a traditional first-person shooter perspective. Three gameplay modes are currently planned - a Story mode, which aproximates the events of the original game; a co-operative Mission mode, which forces networked players to work toward a goal; and Battle mode, which parallels the deathmatch content of the original game. Up to eight players - either local players or individuals in other networked arcades - can particpate in the Battle and Mission modes.
Story mode
Players will go through partial combat scenes from the original game.
Each chapter has several mini levels with goals such as “Kill Combines” or “Find your way to the goal.” Players are forced to go linear, and neon guiding arrows are placed everywhere so that they would never get lost. When players complete the goal he will be taken to next level. When players finish the all levels of the chapter, it’s game-over. If they have NESYS card(sold separately), their progress can be saved on it and they can choose to play the new chapter next time they play.
There is almost no story-telling element other than the G-man intro movie, and it’s impossible to grasp the original Half-Life 2 story from this game. For example, after the g-man intro movie, players will find Gordon with weapons in Route Canal. There are no interactive cut scenes, and Alyx makes no appearance either. The lack of the gravity gun and physics-based puzzles should also be noted.
Mission mode
There are 3 objective maps with 3 difficulties(normal, hard, super hard).
Example of map goals:
- Collect gems
- Destroy Zombie spawning points
- Escape
Battle mode
This is basically 4 versus 4 Team match. Players can choose their character from 4 jobs, 2 races(human/combine).
Available jobs are:
-Ranger
-Soldier
-Sniper
-Engineer
Im sure we will never see this here in the UK but still its intresting to note that some of the modes aailble in Half-Life 2: Survivor seem to copy-cat both Counter-Strike and Team Fortress.
Im also really intrested in how this Joystick/Foot pedal setup would work :S anyway ill leave you with some screenshots
*Update*
I’ve managed to find some video footage, so here you go
